What to put in an MVP (and what to leave out)
Product

An MVP is not a half-designed website. It is the smallest slice of your product that a real user can complete a job with.

When we scope MVPs for startups and internal tools, we ask one question: which action, if completed end-to-end, would prove the business idea? Everything else becomes a backlog item with a date, not a launch blocker.

A practical MVP checklist

  • One primary user and one primary job
  • A way to sign in and a way to get help
  • Enough admin to operate without SQL
  • Instrumentation so you can see whether people finish the job

We then sequence design, API and UI so you can demo something real — not a clickable fiction.
